Yet after she confronted a doctor who allegedly celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, she found herself suspended and facing career-ending retaliation. Her story is now at the center of a lawsuit that is drawing attention far beyond her workplace.<\/p>\n

According to Kuenzle, the incident unfolded on September 10, just hours after news broke that Charlie Kirk had been fatally shot at Utah Valley University. Kuenzle, 33, recalls a moment she describes as surreal: bariatric surgeon Dr. Matthew Jung allegedly \u201ccheered\u201d Kirk\u2019s death in front of staff and even a patient. When Kuenzle responded, \u201cI love him,\u201d Jung allegedly retorted, \u201cI hate Charlie Kirk. He had it coming. He deserved it.\u201d Shocked, she pressed him: \u201cYou\u2019re a doctor. Instead of letting it pass, Kuenzle reported the incident to supervisors and shared her account online. According to her lawsuit, Jung tried to play it off by offering to buy lunch for staff, but Kuenzle felt no gesture could erase what she had heard. By the next day, she claims, she was suspended without pay and warned she might soon be terminated. Her attorney, John Coyle, says the hospital crossed a line. In legal filings, he argues that Englewood Health violated New Jersey\u2019s anti-discrimination laws, retaliated against Kuenzle for her Christian faith, and created a hostile workplace. \u201cShe was punished for refusing to stay silent,\u201d Coyle said, adding that the case is about more than politics \u2014 it\u2019s about whether healthcare workers can expect fairness in environments where trust is everything. The lawsuit demands a jury trial, damages, and accountability for what Kuenzle calls \u201cmind-blowing behavior\u201d by a senior physician.<\/p>\n

The hospital has tried to contain the fallout. Englewood Health confirmed both Kuenzle and Dr. Jung were suspended while the matter is investigated, but insisted the nurse had not been fired. A spokesperson stressed, \u201cThe hospital is conducting a thorough internal review,\u201d and dismissed reports that Kuenzle was encouraged to look for other employment as \u201cinaccurate.\u201d Still, Dr. Jung\u2019s professional profile has already been removed from the hospital\u2019s website \u2014 a sign, some observers say, that his future at the institution is far from secure.<\/p>\n
