<\/p>\nIt\u2019s been 20 years since diners sat down in a Chi-Chi\u2019s restaurant in the United States, but that is about to change. Michael McDermott, son of original owner Marno McDermott, plans to reopen locations in 2025.<\/p>\n

According to a news release, the chain once had more than 200 locations but closed the final restaurant in 2004. Hormel Foods continued the use of Chi-Chi\u2019s trademarks for food sold in retail stores. A new agreement between Hormel and Michael will return the Chi-Chi\u2019s name to restaurant locations soon.<\/p>\n
Michael McDermott Looks Forward To New Era For Chi-Chi\u2019s<\/p>\n
Michael\u2019s father opened the original restaurant in 1975, and Michael was raised in the business. In a news release, he shared his enthusiasm for the adventure.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still have fond memories of growing up in the Chi-Chi\u2019s restaurants that my father built throughout their time, instilling in me the passion and determination to pursue my own career in the restaurant industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Michael has found success with brands such as Kona Grill and Rojo Mexican Grill and looks forward to rebuilding Chi-Chi\u2019s.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen the impact our restaurant has had on individuals and families across the country and believe there is a strong opportunity to bring the brand back in a way that resonates with today\u2019s consumer \u2013 an updated dining experience with the same great taste and Mexican flavor,\u201d Michael said.Chi-Chi\u2019s<\/p>\n
